Your Sculptra Questions Answered
If you aren’t ready for a filler like Juvederm or Voluma yet but feel like your face could use more volume and smoothness, Sculptra is a great alternative for you. Sculptra provides a gradual facial refresh with long-lasting results.
At our Med Spa in Providence, we inject Sculptra into the skin and it works with your body to stimulate the production of collagen.
Collagen is the most abundant in our bodies and serves as a building block in our tissues including bones, skin, and connective tissues. According to Medical News Today, “some types of collagen fibrils, gram-for-gram, are stronger than steel.”
What does Sculptra do?
As we age, collagen in the skin diminishes, so the structure it provides begins to get more slack. You see it in your face as sagging skin, hollowness and also around the mouth and nose where folds appear. Sculptra stimulates collagen production, bringing that plumpness and firmness.
What is Sculptra made of?
Sculptra is made of poly-lactic-acid that is designed to increase volume over time by stimulating the collagen in your skin. You may be familiar with microneedling, a mechanical collagen stimulator. On the same spectrum but with a different application, Sculptra is the chemical collagen stimulator.
What to expect from your Sculptra appointment at Simply Injectables Providence
Most patients require more than one vial of Sculptra for a full facial treatment and a series of treatments for 4-6 weeks. A Sculptra full facial treatment includes temples, cheeks, nasal labial folds, marionette (the lines from the corners of the mouth that run down towards the chin) and the back of jawline. You can expect your Sculptra results to last 18-24 months.
After your Sculptra injections
You may see bruising and swelling from Sculptra injections. In addition, you must apply what’s known as the 5:5:5 Rule: you must massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days. The 5:5:5 Rule is important to reduce any granulomas (small lumps under the skin).
You may use cold compresses on the skin to minimize swelling but always avoid putting ice directly on your skin. It’s also important to reduce your UV exposure by wearing sunscreen with a minimum SPF of SPF 30 for at least a week following treatments.
